My first ever river swim. It was pretty cool basically doing a long up-and-back stretch constantly running parallel to the shore - 6/29/2008 | I look ready to go as I begin the 13.1-mile run - and I was; knocking out a 6:20 pace for the first 5 miles. I would start to run out of gas at mile 9 - 6/29/2008 | 3 minutes and 30 seconds to get from the water to the bike…it should have been its own event - 6/29/2008 | Janis has said that one reason I have not done as well this year is that I haven't pushed myself like I used to. I present exhibit A - my face - as I cross the finish. 'Nuff said - 6/29/2008 |
About 15 of us opted to take ourselves out of the running for the age group awards and shoot only for the overall placing by declaring ourselves in the elite division - 6/29/2008 | Although the results showed me as the 3rd overall finisher (excluding professionals), I was awarded 2nd place. I questioned it, but they insisted - 6/29/2008 | I start lap 2 of the bike with a burst of momentum…and the leading pro woman in my sights - 6/29/2008 | The bike start is one of the few times you'll see me out of my aerobars, which was not an easy feat with the bumpy roads at this venue - 6/29/2008 |
My typical pre-race cleaning. She was a litte overdue so I had her stripped down pretty good…unfortunately, her shine wouldn't even last 24 hours - 6/28/2008 | It looks like I am already assuming my position of 'no-mans' land as I run off to the right of the group at the start - 6/14/2008 | Fleet Feet teammate and training partner Dan Moss (5th overall) trails Stephen Sykes (6th overall) and myself (8th overall) as we hit 5:21 for the first mile - 6/14/2008 | Stephen Sykes and I look like we are 'synchronized running' as we near mile 1. Stephen backed off of my pace shortly thereafter but then caught and passed me later in the run - 6/14/2008 |
I even look scared of the water when it's just a kidde pool to wash off my feet - 5/31/2008 | I ran shoulder to shoulder with another competitor for the first quarter mile…then I got my running legs under me and set it on cruise control - 5/31/2008 | Janis walked the first 2 miles of the run course after I left T2 in order to catch a shot of me passing the mile 6 point - 5/31/2008 | I think this be my absolute all-time favorite award. I now have 2 of them - with different paint jobs…'hey, we're getting the band back together' - 5/31/2008 |
First place 'non-open' award - I never really get how they score these things. I just know that I was 4th overall and the 2nd amateur - 5/31/2008 | Janis said I looked a lot less worse for wear this year. I'd have to agree; last year I looked like death and this year it looks like I'm just out for a jog as I cross the finish - 5/31/2008 | Dan Moss (training partner), Felipe Bastos ('El Drafter'), and Chris Olsen (teammate) were the top 3 finishers - 5/31/2008 | NEXT! Looks like we are lining up to leave the first transition area. This is one of the bad parts about not starting in the open wave - 5/31/2008 |
Masters Regional Champion means only one thing…another hat! - 5/31/2008 | Atop Ceaser's Head with Ashley and Steve - 5/25/2008 | Not to sound petty but my National Championship award is rather dwarfed by my state champ 10k award and my half-ironman award. Tsk, Tsk - 5/19/2008 | National Du Champs started at the lake out in the distance. I'm standing 1100 ft above the lake…the bike came up here - 5/16/2008 |
It's easy to get a solo photo when you are two and a half minutes behind the next slowest swimmer in your wave - 5/10/2008 | My form looks pretty ugly from the front, but Janis gets proof here that everyone has a 'good side' - 5/10/2008 | Chatting it up with teammate David Duchan before the start - which was a bit warmer than last year (45 degrees!) - 5/10/2008 | Don't let the blurriness fool you. I had a fast run (5th best of the day), but not THAT fast - 5/10/2008 |
Not a lot of room to mount my steed at this transition - not to mention it is always the scariest part of the bike as people try to clip in - 5/10/2008 | I execute a near-perfect dismount having pulled my feet from my shoes with a half mile to go - 5/10/2008 | A great day to ride with pro triathlete Sione Jongstra…and an even better day to enjoy a Starbucks afterwards - 5/4/2008 | If it ain't fun, why do it?...does it look like we had fun? You betcha! - 5/3/2008 |
As one of the smaller team members I was lucky and got carried to the finish line in the 'Fireman's carry' - 5/3/2008 | I lead the charge to our 32nd obstacle - the waist-deep mud pit followed by an 8-ft. wall - 5/3/2008 | It only took the first 20 yards before I was completely covered in mud - 5/3/2008 | Preparing to start the St. Francis Challenge 'Mud' Run - 5/3/2008 |
I was well behind the leaders when I came into the 2nd transition but I felt good - 4/26/2008 | We finally get ready to go after playing 'guess the race distances' for an hour (thunderstorms) delayed and then changed the course) - 4/26/2008 | I was happy to finish the swim just over my time estimate, but it took me about a day to get my wetsuit off - 4/26/2008 | The start of an amazingly consistant run - 4/26/2008 |
Crossing the line after a very weird day - 4/26/2008 | With Art in tow, I pass our two lead companions and leave them behind - 4/13/2008 | Passing the first mile marker in the lead group of 4 - 4/13/2008 | I was clear of any other competitors as I cruised across the line for 3rd; 8 seconds faster than last year - 4/13/2008 |
Proudly displaying my sponsors as I cross the finish. No 'helmet boy' this year but watch that quad…it could put an eye out - 4/13/2008 | Nearing the end of the bike segment knowing that I have a good chance at a top 3 overall placing - 4/13/2008 | Art simply will not be shaken. At mile 4 of the bike, I didn't even know he was still behind me - 4/13/2008 | I had the opportunity to do a 5.5 hour training ride with 5-time Ironman champion Heather Gollnick - 3/2/2008 |
Drinking from the victory cup…literally…as I re-capture the Master's State 10k Championship - 3/1/2008 | Can I get any faster on the bike? Well…if I can, these wheels will do it; we'll find out soon enough - 2/22/2008 | Dan's 25ft-long skid mark left behind when a car turned right in front of us. We were lucky to be in one piece - 2/19/2008 | My first race of the 2008 season - Run The Reagan Half Marathon. Crossing the finish line in 4th. - 2/16/2008 |
Relaxing on our friends' (the Neuraths) new deck in Atlanta after taking 4th in my season-opening Run The Reagan Half Marathon - 2/16/2008 | Riding alongside fellow triathlete, YMCA member and neighbor Eric Lafontaine at the Activate Greenville 2008 kickoff - 1/14/2008 | In the middle of an interval while doing a spinning demonstration at the Activate Greenville 2008 kickoff - 1/14/2008 | Sweat + 16 degrees = ice. I had a little trouble talking after this 8-mile run…but still a beautiful morning - 12/18/2008 |
It's a bird, a plane, no…Super-G. I always wanted to be a superhero…12/17/2007 | I spent a lot of time explaining why I quit Ironman Florida when I was destined for a 9:15 time - 11/04/2007 | The transition area at Ironman Florida - 11/03/2007 | Celebrating my birthday at Ironman Florida…it was the only thing to celebrate after I withdrew from the race in protest of the cheating - 11/03/2007 |
I ran right off this guy's shoulder from mile 2 to 7. My goal with my bad heel was to keep the leaders to less than a 4-minute advantage. This guy helped me do that - 10/21/2007 | I was glad to have a bit of a buffer as I headed out in 5th place on the final run at duathlon worlds. I was only passed by one USA teammate - 10/21/2007 | It doesn't look as fancy as most of the other bikes…but with the right engine, she flies. And she gets a lot of credit for staying in one piece on the world's course - 10/21/2007 | I had to run in my bike shoes over 100 yards to get to the bike mount line. My heel would never have been able to handle it barefoot - 10/21/2007 |
Starting my 2nd lap of the bike course. I wasn't as powerful today, but the technical course definitely had me feeling at home after 25 years of bike racing - 10/21/2007 | It wasn't until about 10 seconds before this photo that I was told I was currently in 5th place. My heel was good up until I got off the bike…ouch - 10/21/2007 | The 40+ podium. I’m in silver, my USA teammate Gordy Holterman is in gold (center) and Chris Taylor from Great Britain took the bronze - 10/21/2007 | |
