Wednesday, January 18, 2012: The tentative race calendar is posted. The first race of 2012 is on the books. It's gonna be a great year; I know this because at age 47 I have a lot more wisdom and that wisdom tells me that we each control our own happiness. Bring on the glory and pain!

Wednesday, October 12, 2011: Tri season is done. Time for a couple of half-marathon running races and then a small break and some 'social exercising'. What a turnaround year it was. I'd like to flush the first half down the toilet - but I'll hold on to the second half. For those of you with big events still on the map - good luck!

Sunday, September 25, 2011: Fall is upon us and that's my favorite time of year. I reach the end of my season and I can give not only my body a break, but my mind a break as well. I had a stellar race in Syracuse and that's good because it always takes a little pressure off of your last race - which is in 2 weeks: Rev3 South Carolina Half-Iron. After that? Pumpkin lattes and cooler weather (hopefully).

Wednesday, July 20, 2011: My new Xolair dosage for my allergies seems to be doing the trick. In the past 6 weeks I've gone from having a pretty big drop in my performance all year to a good run at the Simpsonville 8k, a 5:02 mile at the All-Comers Track Meet, a 16:53 at the Red, White and Blue Shoes 5k and last weekend - a stellar day at the Rev3 half-iron in Portland, Oregon. Let's see if we can't keep this streak going and this asthma thingy under control!

Tuesday, May 17, 2011: I've fallen behind a bit on the race reporting…I'm not gonna lie, it's a lot tougher to write race reports when you are struggling to figure out why your having seemingly arbitrary drops in your ability. But I'm working on it. After completing the Boston Marathon, I got together with a few very fast friends and had a blast doing a 'mud run'. We took 4th out of about 1,000 teams. I think if we had taken it a bit more seriously we could've cracked the top 3.

Thursday, February 10, 2011: My lungs are still holding me back...but not enough to kill my enthusiasm. I've got some time before the big races happen and I am hoping I clear up like I've done in the past. In the meantime, I'm enjoying some local events that have been favorites for years - like the Greenville News Downtown 5k and the Green Valley 10-miler

Tuesday, January 18, 2011: Two back-to-back weekends of half marathons and I'm ready to charge forward to some fun goals this year. Great performances by most standards but a bit slower than I am used to. December was a tough month for my allergy-induced asthma after finding out that a live tree was a no-no. I lived with it for 3 weeks and I fear I am still working off the effects. Plenty of time to work it out. Most importantly, my first two events were both new events and both turned into great weekends for Janis and I. Looking forward to plenty more.

Thursday, December 09, 2010: My 2011 season is under way! I'll be representing Fleet Feet, Team Kattouf, Rudy Project and Garmin this year. A little out of character to start the season on a 5k, but it was a great day and a great race at the Paris Mountain 5k. Check out the race report under Recent News.

Friday, October 22, 2010: The season is over but it's time for some fun. Dan and I will complete (hopefully) our 3rd annual ride to Atlanta on October 23rd. It's a 155-mile trek from our subdivision in Simpsonville, SC to our final destination - which is Doc Chey's in the Virginia Highlands area of Atlanta. Our route and data from last year is here: Atlanta Ride 2009. We are not quite as fit as we were for previous rides so we are hoping for a tailwind (or at least no headwind like in '08). We'll depart at 7:30am and you can track us above.

Monday, April 19, 2010: In spite of some persistent power problems in shorter races, I managed to grab 4th place at this past weekend's inaugural Paris Mountain Triathlon. Race report to follow…
