Sporting my new Team Kattouf wind breaker during breakfast. Not only fashionable, but I wore it during my 'non-half-marathon' later that morning - 2/13/2010

2010 Season Primer

by G-Man 8. December 2009 06:27

It's official. After a great 2009 racing triathlon for Team Go Tri Sport, I've made the decision to leave this team...in order to race on a team that more closely mirrors my goals. The fine folks at Go Tri Sports were extremely supportive this past year and the camaraderie amongst the team was fantastic. But my reasons for leaving are pretty simple and straightforward. I am not a triathlete per se. I am an endurance athlete who competes in a huge variety of events and my performances in duathlons and running races are a big part of this. Racing for a pure 'triathlon team' doesn't really align with my goals - or my sponsor's audience. I was looking for a sponsor that would let me be me and at the same time, benefit from all the different kinds of events that I do. TeamKattouf is that team

TeamKattouf will be a very small group of elite endurance athletes sponsored by the TeamKattouf. TeamKattouf is a highly regarded coaching business run by Rick Kattouf - a past endurance champion himself. After spending a month or so with Rick as my coach - and seeing his energy and results - it seemed to be a perfect fit that would be mutually beneficial. With Rick's expertise in all types of endurance and strength training (as well as nutrition), my racing schedule appeals to his broad audience. My new teammates include a couple of past teammates: Chris Olson and Cameron Dorn.

I made one thing clear to Rick as we talked through our newfound relationship; Fleet Feet is my running sponsor for as long as they will have me. My relationship with Fleet Feet Sports here in Greenville goes well beyond sponsorship and I'm not willing to give that up. Rick had no problems with this and would one day expect the same courtesy himself. Sooooo, TeamKattouf and Fleet Feet it is for 2010!! I'll also still be supported by Rudy Project sunglasses and helmets as well as some other partners that are in the works.

My 2010 season is chomping at the bit. I've posted my rather ambitious schedule here on my website and am truly looking forward to some new challenges as well as some classic races. Check it out and see if we'll be racing together in '10.

Lastly, I was asked to write an article for my company newsletter about getting/keeping motivated for an exercise program. I shared the article with the Upstate Triathlon Club, who posted it on their Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/notes/upstate-triathlon-club/getting-off-the-couch/223587625599). The article might also be published in the Greenville Track Club newsletter. Check it out.

My season starts in 5 days with a 10-mile run next weekend. I'm looking forward to a non-stressfull way to kick it all off; a "C" level race that will give me some idea of where I am with my running...and what kind of work I have to do.

Hope you all enjoy your Holidays,
G
